Juanita C. Newton Spencer, 91, devoted wife and mother passed away on Wednesday May 7, 2013 at the Highlands of Memphis Nursing Home from complications of a fractured hip and natural causes. She is survived by her husband of 67 years Ernest W. (Eddie) Spencer; son James H. (Jimmy) Spencer; sister Neil Shelton; and many nephews and nieces. Her family moved to Memphis early in her young life. Juanita was introduced to her future husband Ernest (Eddie) Spencer by her Aunt Alma Black Carr of Port Huron, MI shortly after World War ll. Juanita was a housewife for many years raising her only beloved son. Only when her son started Junior High School, did she find employment and worked as a bookkeeper for many years at "The Flower Box", one of the top Florists in Memphis at that time. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, making the most beautiful table cloths and quilts. She also enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful yard and English gardens. The highlight of her gardens was a flowing water fountain and a beautiful Japanese lantern given to her by Lydia, a girlfriend of her son's. Her whole life was centered around her family. She was truly, greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her devoted husband and beloved son. A burial with graveside services will be held Saturday May 11 in Saulsbury Cemetery, Saulsbury, TN. Arrangements entrusted to: High Point Funeral Home and Crematorium 3788 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN, on May 10, 2013)
