Howard Nelson Owen, 75, of Interlachen, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at his home following an extended illness.
A native of Berkley, Mich., he had resided in Interlachen for 25 years, coming from Waterford, Mich. Howard had retired as a supervisor from the Fisher Body division of General Motors after 30 years of service. After retiring to Florida, he had worked six years with Wal-Mart in Palatka. He was a past president of the Lions Club of Interlachen, of which he had been a member for 21 years, and had also received the Crusade Award for Outstanding Lion for the District. In Florida, he was a member of the First Congregational Church of Interlachen. While in Waterford, Mich., he was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He had also recently obtained his certificate of ordination as an ordained minister.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy H. Owen; three sons, Howard Owen, Geoffrey Owen and Thomas Owen; two daughters, Mary Owen and Virginia Owen Phillips; four brothers, Thomas Owen, Roger Owen, David Owen and Dale Owen; a sister, Ruth Owen Latimer; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Interlachen Lions Club, P.O. Box 748, Interlachen, FL 32148 or the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 988, Interlachen, FL 32148.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 8 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home of Interlachen.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 9 at First Congregational Church of Interlachen with the Rev. Ervin Joslin and the Rev. Ralph Godwin officiating.
The family and friends will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10 at Donelson, Johns and Evans Funeral Home in Waterford, Mich. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 9 Apr 2004.)
