Donald R. Gray of Birch Run, age 80, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Don was born January 25, 1931 in Clio, Michigan to the late Andrew and Josephine (Pratt) Gray and resided in Birch Run for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Don married Darlene Bartow on September 21, 1957 in Midland. Mr. Gray retired from General Motors in 1989 with 36 years seniority. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, UAW Local #326, and a former member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, small engine repair, tinkering with cars, fishing, hunting and traveling.
Surviving are: wife, Darlene; sons, Dennis (Jackie) Gray of FL, Douglas (Tina) Gray of Clio; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy (Bekki), Danielle, Jennifer and Deanna; 2 great-grandchildren, Chloe and Carly; brother, James (Hilda) Gray of Birch Run; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by: daughter, Denise; grandson, Eddie Barlow; sister, Bethany Green; and a brother, Andrew Gray Jr.
Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, January 29, 2011at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran, 1200 E. Genesee St., Frankenmuth. Pastor Joel Willitz officiating. Entombment to follow at Flint Memorial Park with military honors under the direction of the Birch Run VFW Post # 7542. Friends may call at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Friday from 1-9PM. Mr. Gray will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10AM until the time of service.
