Rhodes, Arthur Allan Sr.
84 of Phoenix, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday morning May 6th at 5:30 AM. Dad always looked forward to seeing his mother again in heaven as he love her dearly and always looked after her before she passed. Dad is survived by his faithful wife of 58 1/2 years Mrs. Willabelle Marie Rhodes, daughter Cynthia Jean Koll, son Allan Jr., two precious granddaughters, Kristie Amber Means and Jennifer Marie Johnson, and his brand new great grandson Wesley Eugene Johnson who he was able to see and hold over this past Easter weekend. Being with his family was always the most important thing in his life next to going to church every Sunday. Flying his two grand daughters to Phoenix each summer for 4-6 weeks to be with him and his wife was something he cherished and spoke of often. And making trips a couple times a year to Texas to spend time with Al Jr. was another favorite thing to do with his wife Billie. One of his favorite sayings was "son it just seems like things go better when I go to church". Dad was lead to our Lord by his mother Fanny Rhodes when he was growing up on the farm in North Dakota with his two brothers Harold and Harvey and his little sister Maxine whom he looked after prior to her marriage to Mr. Donald Smithberg.
Big "Al" loved our Lord and always looked forward to Sunday morning worship service. Dad lived his life according to the teaching found in the bible. One of his favorite times of the year was when he got to lead the youth at his church on work-teams. Working on construction projects with the youth and teaching them carpentry skills was a true joy as he spent his life working in the carpentry trade. On behalf of all Dad's family, we will cherish his memory and remain thankful for having been blessed by our Lord with his life. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 4:00pm at First United Methodist Church, 7120 N. 58th Dr, Glendale, AZ 85301. Graveside services to be held on Friday, May 10th at 10:00am at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024.
