Georgette B. Berube, 77, of 195 Webster St., Lewiston, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at d’Youville Pavilion, after a long illness.

Born in Lewiston, July 23, 1927, she was an honors graduate of Lewiston High School and attended the Maine School of Commerce and the University of Maine Augusta.

Involved in the management of a family business, she later served 12 years in the Maine House of Representatives and 14 years in the Maine State Senate. Among the legislative committees she chaired, were the committees on Education and also Health and Human Services. She also served as a member of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.

Through the years she developed a rapport with her constituents and was rewarded by their vote. Her great appreciation of classical music and the arts were transmitted to her piano and paintings. For many years she served on the Diocesan Finance Council of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Maine. She was married to Gerard R. Berube in 1952, and he predeceased her in 1977.

She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church

She leaves a son, Claude Gerard Berube and his wife, Mary Katherine, of Falls Church, Va.; a daughter, Michele and her husband, James F. O’Hara II, and three granddaughters, Meaghan, Katherine and Grace O’Hara, all of Norwell, Mass.; a brother, Maurice A. Beauparlant of Auburn, ME
