Mrs. Rome died Monday, May 23, 2005, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was born March 14, 1931, in Garden City, to Arlie B. and Beulah Bergkamp Gardner.
On Dec. 28, 1950, she married Peter Rome in Garden City.
She grew up and attended school in Garden City, graduating from Garden City High School. A homemaker, Mrs. Rome had lived in Colorado Springs since 1988. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church at Garden City and Divine Redeemer Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. She enjoyed traveling and hiking in the mountains.
Survivors include seven sons, Joseph Rome of Holcomb, Ronald Rome of Hays, Mark Rome of Phoenix, Patrick Rome of El Paso, Texas, Timothy and Paul Rome, both of Garden City, and Gerald Rome of Houston; four daughters, Ann Marie Jones of Manteca, Calif., Marilyn Vest of Manassas, Va., Teresa Rome of Colorado Springs, and Arlene Fontenot of Lakin; a sister, Jean Hays of Porterville, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Nicholas Rome.
Visitation hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Pike's Peak Hospice of Colorado Springs, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
