Mrs. Kerns Dies. (Hebron Champion)

Mrs. Harried C. Kerns, wife of Jacob Kerns of Stoddard, passed gently away at 11:45 Monday night, July 18, 1921.

There was probably no lady in the county so well known and thought of as she and no one more universally respected.

Mrs. Kerns was born in Harrison township, Gallig county, Ohio, June 5, 1864, and was united in marriage to Jacob Kerns at her home August 27, 1884 and came to Thayer county Nebraska having resided at Stoddard for the past 12 years. Mrs. Kerns was a member of the United Brethren church until January 7, 1894 when she united with the Presbyterian church.

Unto this couple no children were born, but having great love for children, Mr. and Mrs. Kerns adopted Earl Kerns and Goldie Kerns. She leaves to mourn her besides her beloved husband and adopted children three brothers, Francis F., Joseph N. and Anwsel Blake Theirry of Wenona, Ill. Two brothers and four sisters died some time ago.

Mrs. Kerns had been in poor health for some time. She had been slowly fading away despite the earnest efforts of her loved ones to retain her with them. And yet it was with a shock that the news of her end was received. Hard it is to lose one by the merciless hand of death, it is particularly so when one's best friend a mother, has passed away from earth, leaving a respected family to whom her life was so attractive and precious.

Mrs. Kerns, was 57 years old, she was a kind and charitable and affectionate friend and parent, but in no place was her worth so clearly recognized or did her life shine so brightly as in the household group to which she belonged.

The funeral services were held at the family residence at Stoddard, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and were preached by Rev. D.C. Williamson of the Presbyterian church in Hebron.
