James W. Cheek, 85, died Saturday, May 24, 2003. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Clark�s Funeral Home in Hawkinsville with burial in Browndale Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. David Primm officiated.
Mr. Cheek, husband of Frances Caldwell Cheek, was born in Hawkinsville, the son of the late Clifford Cheek and Roberta Spears. He was the brother of six siblings: Meredith Cheek, Franklin Cheek, Ora Lee Slade,Frances Thompson, and Sara Stuart, all of Hawkinsville, and Virginia Buchanan of Warner Robins. During his 26-year career in the United States Army, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and served his country honorably in World War II and the Korean War. He earned many accolades, including nine Battle Stars and the Bronze Star after serving in the 1st Battalion, �C� Company, 66th Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, �Hell on Wheels.�
Mr. Cheek is survived by three children, Gary Cheek with wife Geneva from Cleveland, GA, Jacqueline Welch with husband Earl of Mason, TN, and Mitzie Cribb with husband Buster of Gray; his grandchildren, Pamela Trouy, Debra Biggs, Andrew Webb, Larry Webb, David Welch, Wendy Garrison, Charles Nathan Webb and Tracy Cheek; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
