Joe Olive Nixon, 84, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Visitation is after 12 noon Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Lakewood Memorial Park. Joe was born September 26, 1919 in Mileston, Miss, and was a longtime resident of Jackson and recently of Raymond. He was a World War II United States Army Veteran and received the Victory Medal and the Bronze Star Medal, which was presented by General Patton. Joe retired from Jackson Ready Mix Concrete in 1985 after over 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Alpha, Margie, Lucy, Jeannette and Helon, 7 brothers, Van, Barney, Leslie, Cage, Morris, Leon and Rufus and a grandson, Brent Nixon McDonald. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Byrd Nixon, four daughters, Elaine McDonald and her husband, Billy of Pass Christian, Sharon Nixon of Raymond, Deborah Johnston and her husband Brian of Edwards, Susan Wright and her husband Larry of Ridgeland, two sons, B.J. Nixon and his wife Carolyn of Brandon and Don Nixon and his wife Kathy of Raymond. Two sisters, Ann Burleson of Jackson, and Mary Adkins of Madison, a brother, Curtis Nixon of Pensacola, Fla. ; 1 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
