Joe was proud of his family and his nation. He joined the Army in 1948, fighting during WWII and Korea.
While stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Joe met and married the love of his life, who would become his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Dora (Stires) Daley on August 15, 1950 in El Paso. Dora had two children from a previous marriage but these kids were 'his'.
Joe & Dora's first child, son Robert James Meeks, died less than a week after his birth (Aug 6, 1853 - Aug 10, 1853). Robert is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in El Paso: Section "I", Plot 30, E 1/2 8A (near SP & TP Railroad).
They had four more children after Robert. Their six remaining children are still living and reside in the El Paso & Fort Worth areas.
