Bob had a distinguished 30 year career as a reporter for the Chicago Sun Times, Associated Press and as editor for the National Catholic Reporter.
He was the beloved husband of Virginia 'Ginny' M. Olmstead (nee Dietmeyer) for 55 years. He was the loving father of Mary T. Olmstead, Ruth Olmstead, Carol (Jan) Miecznikowski, Monica (Phillip) Eberz and Robert F. (Marni) Olmstead; He was the dear grandfather of Brian, Emily, Ginny, Monica, Payson, Genevieve, Aidan and Evy. Fond brother of Louise Agos, James (Joan), Thomas (Cassandra), and the late Richard (Mary) Olmstead. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Sunday, May 12th from 2 to 8 pm at Adolf Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ltd. 7000 S. Madison St; Willowbrook.
Funeral Service: Monday, prayers at 9:00 am at the funeral home proceeding to St. Hugh Church, 7939 West 43rd Street, Lyons, Illinois for mass at 10:00 am.
Interment: St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Illinois.
