Obituary for Carol J. Johansen

Carol Jean Johansen was born to Otto E. and Lisa (Andersen) Petersen on December 17, 1929 in Lake Benton Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota. She was baptized at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler, Minnesota, and later confirmed there. She attended 8 years of elementary school at District #44 country school. Following graduation from Tyler High School in 1948 she attended Mankato Commercial College. She worked for three years at Sexauer Company in Brookings, South Dakota, then three years at Dulaney's Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After her return to Tyler, she married Ralf Johansen on February 18, 1956. Their union was blessed with 3 children and 39 years of life together. They made their home in Tyler, moving to Danebod Village in 1989. Carol worked at Citizens State Bank until her retirement in 1993. Ralf died in 1995. On Monday, May 6, 2013 Carol died at her home under the care of Ridgeview Hospice at the age of 83.

Carol was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church. She was a charter member of the Danebod evening circles and of the Danebod Lutheran Church Women. She also worked as Bookkeeper for Danebod Village. She put in many hours as a volunteer as registrar for the Danebod Fall Folk Meeting, and volunteering at Tyler Healthcare Center, including as a Hospice volunteer and as coordinator for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Red Hat Skiver. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and visiting with family and friends. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren.

Carol is lovingly remembered by her children, Keith Johansen and his girlfriend Ferol Copley of Marysville, Washington, Joyce Addabbo and her husband Mark of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jane Hill and her husband Bob of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; grandchildren Brent Johansen and Alyssa Addabbo; step-grandchild Bobbie (Joshua) Ljunggren; step-great-grandchildren Koby, Xaviera, and Jack; sisters Clarice Kumlien of Willow Wood, Ohio, and Joan Weber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister-in-law Elfriede Petersen of Tyler, Minnesota; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralf; her parents; her brothers, David and Donald Petersen; and brother-in-law Clem Weber.
