We know that William Thomas was born and raised in Virginia, and there married Frances Louise Moore and they began their family there, before treking to northern Alabama, Madison County, where he became a successful farmer and cattleman.

We know of nine children who survived to adulthood, and they are listed as follows:

1) Elizabeth Landman 1798-1852
2) William Landman 1799-1828
3) James Henry Landman 1801-1882
4) Royal S. Landman 1809-1860
5) Mary Ann Landman 1810-1852
6) Samuel "Saul" Landman 1812-1889
7) George Purdon Landman 1813-1840
8) Frances Moore "Fannie" Landman 1815-1852
9) Paulina G. "Lena" Landman 1817-1886

Only one grave is clearly marked in the Landman Cemetery, that of Frances Louise Moore Landman, wife of William Thomas. It is believed the grave on one side of Frances, is that of William Thomas, and the other side - that of son, Royal S. Landman.
