Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Meeks Mortuary for Robert Melvin Thomas Badders, 77, 1304 S. Burlington Drive. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and before services Saturday at the mortuary, where Muncie Lodge 433 F&AM will have a memorial at 8 p.m.

Mr. Badders died Tuesday in Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born in Harrison Township and graduated from Harrison Township High School and Indiana College of Mortuary Science, Indianapolis. He became a funeral director in 1944 and was associated with Meeks Mortuary from 1949 until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Badders was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Homebuilders Friendship Class and Methodist Men, and at one time was chairman of the board of trustees of the church. He was a member of Muncie Lodge 433, F&AM; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; Delaware County Scottish Rite Club; Muncie Chapter 30 RAM; and Esther Shrine 14, White Shrine of Jerusalem.

He was a member of the Muncie Lions Club, was its president, 1979-80, and for several years was sight conservation chairman. He was a member and past president of Delaware County Workers for the Blind, Muncie Area Ostomy Group, and American Association of Retired Persons; a member and past vice president of Very Happy Willing Workers, and a volunteer and red coat for the Ball Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Mr. Badders was a charter member of the Muncie Police Reserves, was the organization's lieutenant and secretary, and had been a member from 1940 to 1974. He was a member of Muncie Lodge 33, Loyal Order of Moose, Trail Legion 36, Fellowship Degree and 25 Club.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Luella Carey Badders; his daughter, Sharon Jones (husband: R.J.), Farmington, N.M.; three sisters, Gretchen Sumwalt (husband: Robert), Muncie, Mary Lou Hoagland (husband: Fred), Oaklawn, Ill., and Barbara Middleton (husband: Don, Greentown; two grandchildren; Jeanna Marie Butterfield and Robert Joseph Jones; two great grandchildren, Jesse and Becky Butterfield; a stepsister, Virginia Nauman, Gaston; a foster daughter; Sandra Thomas, Springport; three foster grandchildren; four foster great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, Arthur C. and Harriett F. Masters Badders; three sisters, Margaraet McCord and Jama and Becky Badders, and a brother, Arthur C. Badders Jr., are deceased.
