Dean R. Alcott, 84, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.
For the past five years he resided on Broad Turn Road, Scarborough, and formerly resided in Portland and Freeport most of his life.
He was born in Brunswick, a son of Elmer and Nellie Avery Alcott, and attended Portland schools.
Mr. Alcott worked for a pool ball company in Portland and later for the Hemingway Transport trucking company on the loading crew in Portland for many years, until his retirement in 1975.
He was a member of Freeport Grange Hall, the Golden Age Center of Portland and the Teamsters.
Three wives predeceased him: Retha Paine, Nellie Fossett and Frances Blackstone.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Alcott of Scarborough; two sons, Elmer of Scarborough and Paul of New Gloucester; a stepdaughter, Rosalie Greenier of Kittery; a stepson, George Merrill of Westbrook; four sisters, Mrs. John (Louisa) Daniels of Saco, Mrs. ''Pete'' (Cammilla) Peterson of California, Mrs. Enoch (Hattie) Andrews of Windham and Mrs. Freda Dodge of Portland; a brother, Gordon of Winthrop; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Christ Church 1900 Congress St. The Rev. Mark Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are by Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.
