Joseph B. Anderson, 70, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness on March 19, 2009, with his family by his side. Joseph was born and raised in Scarborough, the son of Ruth and Rudolph Anderson. He graduated from Scarborough High School in 1957 and then went on to graduate from Maine Maritime Academy in 1960. Joe sailed, as third officer for: U.S. Lines, Mobile Oil, Standard Oil and Grace Lines. He owned and operated a fishing vessel with his cousin David Jordan and fished commercially out of Portland. He then worked as a lobsterman for the next 40 years out of Pine Point, passing the knowledge of the business down to his son Jeff. Joe had a passion for all sports and loved to spend time in the Florida Keys sports fishing with friends and family. He also loved to travel. Joe especially enjoyed spending time with his family and found much joy in his grandchildren.

Joseph is survived by his wife Beth Anderson of 46 years; daughter Jennifer Anderson and son Jeffrey Anderson; seven grandchildren, Caroline, Julia, Molly, Quinn, Joseph, Audrey and David; his brother Rudy and wife Kathy Anderson and their children; and brother-in-law Alan Graves and family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Joe's nurse, Danielle Harris, for her loving care of Joe the past three years. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Blue Point Congregational Church, 236 Pine Point Rd., Scarborough. Arrangements made by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. RTE 1, Scarborough 207-883-5599. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southern Maine or St. James School in Biddeford.
