Rebecca Shannon Berry, 88 of Hanover, departed this life on Monday, May 6th, 2013, after a long illness.

Born January 19, 1925 at Baileysville, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Meda Godfrey Shannon.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Schubert Lester Berry; one son, Jerome Shannon Berry; six brothers: Willie, Carl, Luther and Kennie Hatfield and Joe and Lonnie Shannon; and three sisters: Tilda Harvey, Callie Trent and Martha Hatfield.

Rebecca was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for 45 years with the Wyoming County Board of Education teaching first grade at Huff Consolidated School at Hanover. She attended the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church at Hanover. Rebecca loved nature and being outdoors, she loved working with her flowers and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Rebecca and to mourn her passing include her son, Gregory (Reta) Berry of Morganton NC; her daughter, Rosemary (Davie) Stone of Hanover WV; her daughter-in-law, Wanda Berry Lester of Hanover WV; her seven grandchildren: Shannon (Craig) Bratton of Campbellsburg KY, Shamus Berry of Fayetteville NC, Preston Berry of Frankfort KY, Rachel Berry of Morganton NC, Erin (Jimmy) Hatfield of Saulsville WV, Kathleen (Shawn) Bradley of Weirton WV, and Tessa Johnson of Gilbert; her five great-grandchildren: Jacob and Emily Bratton, Molly Cook, Brooke Hatfield and Braelynn Mclean; many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Thursday, May 9th from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 10th at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Justice officiating.

Burial will follow in the Shannon Cemetery at Baileysville.

Rebecca will be carried to her final resting place by her grandsons.

She is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
