Sheriff Green of San Mateo Drowned

REDWOOD CITY, November 6th—George W. Green, Sheriff of this county, was drowned to day, at the mouth of Redwood City Creek, by the capsizing of a boat.

[LATER]—It is learned that Sheriff Green, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, aged 7 and 9 years, started for a trip to the Oyster Beds, in a sail boat this forenoon. A "trustie" from the Redwood City Jail went along to assist in the management of the boat. Shortly after reaching the mouth of the creek, a squall came up in the bay and the boat was suddenly capsized, throwing all the occupants into the water. Sheriff Green, who was a large, powerful man of about 40 years of age, and a good swimmer, with the aid of the trustie succeeded in righting the boat and saving his wife and two children by placing them in the boat, but, becoming exhausted through his efforts, he sank before assistance could reach him and was drowned.
