Growing up in Palmyra Village, on the Farm of Grandparents William & Lena Rowe, Mother Mabel Rowe died after second child at age 29; Disheartened by the loss of his wife and with WWI raging over seas, John as a young toddler lost his father too, with George Patrick McGrath running off to Canada in 1915 to join the Military to never return. Though it was a Mystery until recently, It appears their father returned from WWI and to the United States, Ohio and remarried with more children, never knowing the men his 2 sons John and Neal would become.

John Grew up on the farm, a Dairy farm with Neal and Enlisted in WWII Navy, serving on ship as a gunners mate and he received a purple heart in the pacific theater, I think I saw it once, but he never talked about the injury. He liked Baseball, Food and Beer, not necessarily in that order. He worked hard and Retired from Pet Milk and loved life, He was a avid Shriner and Wore his funny hat proudly like Fred Flintstone and the Grand Lodge :) ; He liked to fish and he enjoyed woodwork projects in the garage passing this love down to his sons, Duane and Roger. He married two women, 1st Wife Pearl Uglow, 3 Kids, School Teacher, Died 1974; and Alice Reish (No children, wonderful Grandmother though); All 3 children graduated college, Real-Estate Broker, Architect, Daughter was a School Teacher (retired).

Neal Patrick (Brother) went to the service WWII also, but he never came home, he returned and settled in Portland Oregon and began anew. Married had kids and never contacted his family or brother.

This family needs to get ahold of its self and pull together, we keep losing each other. Grandpa would never have like that, scattering and not keeping in touch, he was always after us to write letters to him and was always writing us and giving us cards and money. Well that was him, a Great Man, silent and strong.
