Dr. Hugh C. Claggett, 85, of Hannibal, died at 7:30 PM Monday, May 6, 2013 at Luther Manor Nursing Center in Hannibal with his wife and daughter by his side.

Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Brother Justin Mosher will officiate. Burial with Full Military Honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal.

Dr. Claggett was born December 15, 1927, in Hannibal, Missouri to Hugh C. Claggett Sr. and Minnie L-Mertie Bumgardner Claggett.

He married Dorothy Hoffstadt on July 21, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri. She survives.

Other survivors include 1 Daughter, Gretl (Gretchen) Claggett of NYC; 6 sisters: Barbara Jean Graham, Elizabeth Sue "Betty" Ray, Bonnie Hawkins, Diane Lytton (Jim), Sandie Shelton (Danny) and Marcia Hughes; plus nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 stepmothers: Mildred Sue Decker and June Claggett; 2 sisters: Verna Mae Smith, Georgia Lee Helfrich; 4 brothers: Willard Carson Blackwell, John Samuel Brandon, Gilbert Ellis Claggett and Paul David Claggett.

Dr. Claggett was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He attended Turner Grade School in Hannibal and Hannibal High School. He then attended Central High School in Washington, DC, Hannibal LaGrange College, Quincy College and St. Louis University Dental School. After Dental School, Dr. Claggett first practiced in St. Louis before returning to Hannibal in 1958. He loved collecting "Golden Age" films and especially enjoyed musicals. Dr. Claggett also liked to cook and was an avid swimmer. He was a member of 5th Street Baptist Church and also attended St. John's Lutheran Church with his wife and daughter for many years.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran School or the Music Ministry at 5th Street Baptist Church in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Gil Claggett, Ron Hoffstadt, Darren Thompson, Ross Walden, Jim Lytton and Ray Crane.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Arnold, David Johnson, Stephen St. Clair and Delbert Thomas.
