Dorothy Emma Hattie (Willems) Hissong was born Dec. 6, 1918 to Henry and Ida (Bodtke) Willems at Gilead, Nebr. She departed from this life to her heavenly home Apr. 5, 2005 at Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron, Nebr. at the age of 86 years.

Dorothy was baptized Dec. 29, 1918 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Gilead, with Pastor I. Mansur. She confirmed her faith in September of 1933 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor R. J. Voss.

Dorothy attended Country School District 97 in Gilead. After completing the eight grade, she then attended to many families helping them and also helping her father on the farm. Dorothy also played the organ at her church and enjoyed many church functions.

On May 5, 1940 she was united in marriage to Dorell W. Hissong at the St. Paul's parsonage in Gilead by Pastor Schulte. To this union four children were born.

At the time of her death, Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron and also the VFW Auxiliary.

Dorothy was a housewife, mother and friend. Shortly after her youngest children were grown, she worked outside the home. Many remember her for her many years at Blue Valley Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ida Willems; her husband, Dorrell; two sisters-in-law, Irita Virus and Wilma Wiedel and two brothers-in-law, Ray Staggs and Bill Hissong.

Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Allen Hissong and wife, Frances, Hebron, Beverly Kuhns and husband, Donovin, Hebron, Linda Fangmeyer and husband, LeRoy, Deshler, Nebr. and Randy Hissong and wife, Cheryl, Hebron; two sisters, Rolla Staggs, Ribgy, Idaho and Leora Engel, and husband, Marvin, Fairbury, Nebr.; two brothers-in-law, Virgil Hissong and wife, Elaine, Malvern, Ak., Cornelius Wiedel, Hebron and one sister-in-law, Margaret Reese and husband, Art, Fairbury, Nebr.

Dorothy's pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved when they came over alone or with a friend or two. She always had something special for each and every one of them. They are: Todd Hissong, Las Vegas, Nev., Dr. Kimberly Hissong, Salt Lake City, Utah, Troy Hissong, Hebron, Dr. Travis Hissong and wife Abby, Oberlin, Kan., Tysen Hissong and wife, Tina, Hebron, Kelli Casch and husband, Henry, Beatrice, Nebr., Matthew Kuhns and wife, Cheri, York, Nebr., Jami Fangmeyer, Hebron, Tyler Fangmeyer and Alisha Loontjer, Deshler, Miranda Wiedel and husband, Joshua, Belvidere, Nebr., Tara Huber and husband, Christopher, Hebron, Angela Hissong and Derek Kune, Diller, Nebr., and Tricia Hissong, Hebron. She has 18 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy will be missed by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, many friends including Rose Krause who was so kind to her.

Funeral services were held Sat., April 9, at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron with Pastor Richard Pfleiderer officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hebron.

Organist was Janet Germer. The congregation sang, "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," "Amazing Grace" and "On Eagles Wings."

Casket bearers were her grandsons; honorary casket bearers, granddaughters.

Memorials are to the family's choice.

Services were conducted by Hebron Memorial Funeral Home, Hebron.
