Shelby M. Crissman, 87, of Kittanning, formerly of Tarentum, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 3, 1925 in Mosgrove, a son of Ottie McClellan and Emma Lillian (Brink) Crissman.

Shelby honorably served his country in the Army and was a veteran of World War II, stationed with the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Lewis, in Tacoma, Wash., in an engineering group. He retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel in 1987, after working many years in the engineering department. Shelby married his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte G. Mateer, on October 15, 1985. He moved to Tarentum in 1969 and called the area his home until 2009, when he moved to Kittanning. Spending time with friends was a favorite pastime of his. He frequently went on bus tours and enjoyed eating out. Shelby loved working in his flower and vegetable gardens and shared its bounty with friends and neighbors. Family was extremely important to him; he attended every family reunion and carried pictures of his wife and mother. Shelby was a loving and caring husband, uncle and brother, and will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

He will be greatly missed by his brother, David F. Crissman, of Templeton; sisters, H. Jean Hutchinson, of Kittanning, Shirley A. Smith and husband, Earl, of Butler, Alice R. Bish, of Indiana, and Nancy E. Ray and husband, Donald, of Poland, Ohio; brother-in-law, Lloyl Profitt, of Akron, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Shelby was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 23 years, Charlotte G. (Mateer) Crissman, who passed away July 6, 2009; brothers, Clarence F., Charles A., William J. and James A. Crissman; and sister, Joan E. Profitt.

Family and friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at BAUER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. Additional visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, with funeral services following at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. Gale Winning officiating. Burial will be in Kittanning Cemetery, Kittanning, where military honors will be presented. Contributions may be made in his memory to the First Church of God Building Fund, 629 Woodward Ave., Kittanning, PA 16201.
