Son of Seanus Young and Jefferson Dyer. His family relocated to Guilford County, NC, soon after 1940, where he met and married Nell Riddell. They had one known child.

He entered the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, NC, on 25 Jun 1945 and honorably served his country.

Following is his obituary from the Greensboro News & Record (NC), November 10, 1986.

Norman Dyer, 59, died Friday.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Forest lawn Cemetery.
He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a native La Grange, Ga., and attended First Moravian Church in Greensboro.
Surviving are wife Nell R. Dyer; Mrs. Scotty Moore; two granddaughters.
The family will be at 715 S. Elam Ave. after the service.
Memorials may be made to First Moravian Church.
