Shirley Allen Selzer, 84, of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully May 6, 2013, at the Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff.Her memorial service will be held May 9, at St Francis Episcopal Church in Scottsbluff. A private family inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.
Shirley was born Feb. 26, 1929 in Tecumseh, Neb. to Warren Lee and Grace(Blough)Allen. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1947. In 1951 she graduated from the University of Nebraska where she was member of the Student Council, Mortar Board (Senior Women's Honorary), Pi Lambda Theta, and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and was the 1949 Homecoming Queen. At the University of Nebraska she served as President of Tassels and Secretary of Phi Sigma Chi (both Nebraska Pep Organizations). While President of Tassels, she helped start the tradition of releasing balloons after the first touchdown at the Husker games. On Dec. 17, 1950 she married John T.(Jack)Selzer in Tecumseh. They lived in Alliance, until 1952 when they moved to Scottsbluff where she lived the remainder of her life.Shirley was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the Vestry, and was the Director of the Alter Guild. She served as a member and was a past-President of Chapter ET PEO and worked for many years in the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a long time member of the Scotts Bluff Country Club and enjoyed playing in the Tennis and Golf Leagues. She was also an avid bridge player her entire adult life.Survivors include her sons, John A. (Ann) Selzer of Scottsbluff and Stephen T. Selzer of Denver; grandchildren, Jane (Chris) Kelley and John L. (Jamie) Selzer of Scottsbluff, and Michael, Samantha, and Joe Selzer of Denver; and great-grandchildren Anna Kelley, Nate Kelley, Elliot Selzer, and Charlie Selzer of Scottsbluff.
Her husband and her parents preceded her in death.
