Martha was born July 19, 1920 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Alexander and Anice Zakem.
She married Philip H. Schervish (deceased) September 4, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan.
Martha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Although born in Nebraska, she lived in Grand Rapids, MI, Detroit, MI, and Phoenix, AZ before moving to Louisville in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters, and one brother.
Although widowed young in life, Martha raised three children on her own while self-employed. She is also a ten year breast cancer survivor.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Philip H (Peg) Schervish of Louisville, KY; daughter Marianne (John) Kiefer of Defiance, OH, and son Michael J. (Lynette) Schervish of Port Orange, FL; grandsons, Edward J. (Gina) Kiefer and Philip M. Schervish; granddaughters Anice (Reece) Chenault, Katherine L. Schervish, Rachael A. Kiefer, and Natalie P. Schervish; and great-grandsons Eddie, Sam and Henry Kiefer.
Viewing will be Saturday, April 27 at 9 a.m. at St. William Church. The Catholic Mass for the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. April 27 at St. William Church, 1226 West Oak Street, Louisville, KY. It is recommended by Metro Police that those attending her services access Broadway to reach the Church.
A Forty Day Memorial Mass will be held in Detroit, MI, followed by interment at Mount Olivette Cemetery in Detroit, MI.
