George was the son of Thomas and Mary Bell. He is found in the 1910 census at the age of 7, an only child at the time, living with his parents in Tazewell, Marion, Georgia on Tazwell and Calloway Road. George, like his parents were all born in Georgia.

By 1920 the family had moved into adjacent Marion County where they lived in the vicinity of Ft. Perry. Now at the age of 16, George, although still attending school, is also woring on his father's farm as a farm laborer. Now he is not an only child, but has a number of younger siblings living with them, including, William J. 15, James M. 12, Daniel C 7 and Mary 3 years and 7 months old. Also with them was his grandmother, Jane Ann Bryant 64.

By the 1930 census, George has married and was living with his wife, Ruby, nee Yarbrough, in the Ft. Perry area of northeast Marion County, GA. At the time he was working as a sawmill worker. With he and Ruby were two of their children, a daughter and son.

Sadly, 5 years later George had passed away. However, it does appear that he had three other sons, including a set of possibly twins, and in 1940 all the children are with their grandparents. Ruby, now a widow, was working as an cloth inspector in a cotton mill in Thomaston, living on Railroad Steet there with her brother and brother=in-law.
