On June 14, 1822, Col. Thomas Hendricks founded the town of Greensburg, Indiana, which is the county seat of Decatur County. He was also a veteran of the War of 1812. He came from Westmoreland, Pennsylvania and built the first cabin in the town. His first wife, Elizabeth Trimble, chose the name Greensburg, after her native town in Pennsylvania.
