Rev. J. V. Kirkland, aged about 65 years, died at his home near Flintville, Tuesday, April 23. He was a native of Hickman County and had spent his life in the ministry, his labors being principally confined to West Tennessee and Kentucky until the last few years. At the beginning he entered the ministry of the Primitive Baptist but for perhaps ten years had been identified with the Missionary Baptists. Having naturally a logical mind, coupled with constructiveness and system, he early established a reputation as a strong and convincing preacher and his efforts were always returned crowned with great success. His last active work was as district evangelist with for William Carey Association and as such had become acquainted and loved by the people in this section. A man of his attainments would have prospered and accumulated worldly possessions in secular pursuits, but instead he laid up treasure that will not rust and moth will not corrupt. His life was one of sacrifice and service and now through all eternity he will be crowned with glory. He is survived by his wife and a number of children, among them Mrs. Charles B. Edmondson of Fayetteville. The funeral service will be held at the Baptist Church in this place this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Roy Chandler and other preachers of William Carey Association and Rev. J. F. Beasley and Mr. Eb Stewart. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
