George V. "Jim" Burns

HORNICK, Iowa - George V. "Jim" Burns, 73, of Hornick died Friday at his residence after an apparent heart attack.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hornick United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dale Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home of Sloan. Masonic rites by Amicable Lodge 289 AF & AM of Smithland will be held following the services at the church.

Mr. Burns was born Oct. 12, 1905, in Hornick. He married Lula Buser on March 28, 1934. in Sloan. She died Jan. 20, 1973.

Mr. Burns was a farmer. He lived in Hill City, Minn., and operated a resort there from 1947 to 1962. In 1962, he returned to Hornick.

Mr. Burns was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church, Amicable Lodge 289, AF&AM of Smithland, the Sioux City Consistory and the Abu Bekr Shrine of Sioux City.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ward (Veo) Arnold of Champaign, Ill., three nieces and three nephews.
