Ted R. Owens, a Concrete community resident, passed away on Sunday June 9, 2002 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, at the age of 80 years.

He was born on December 25, 1921 in Colley, Dickenson County, Virginia, the son of Lina and Ted Owen, Sr. As a young man Ted worked in the coal mines in Virginia.

In 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country for 32 years, retiring in 1981. During those years he earned numerous awards for outstanding achievements.

He was united in marriage to Karin Hechinger in Seattle, WA in 1956. They came to Skagit County in 1961 and settled in Birdsview in 1964.

Following his retirement, Ted enjoyed hunting, trips to the mountains, raising a vegetable garden and restoring 'old Chevy Luv pickups'. His favorite pastime was spending time with family and visiting with neighbors.

Ted is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karin, of Concrete; daughter: Tammy (Ray) Ensley; three sons: Gary (Sheri) Owens, George (Fritzi) Donaldson and Rick (Lori) Owens, all of Birdsview; two brothers: Russell (Joanna) Owens and Tivis Owens; two sisters: Connie (Kenneth) Phipps and Betty (Gerald) McClanahan, all of VA; seven grandchildren: Nicki Godfrey Jeff, Tracie Reuwsaat Doug, Bryan Ensley, Candan Owens, Owen Ensley, Courtney & Olivia Owens; three great-grandchildren: Cody Donaldson, Emmarae and Lucus Reuwsaat; and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.

Dad will always be remembered as being there to lend a helping hand without being asked and never expecting anything in return.

The family suggests memorials be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Sedro-Woolley. Graveside services will be held Thursday June 13, 2002 at 3:00 PM at the Hamilton Cemetery. Pastor Walt Rice, of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, officiating.
