Stanley N. Harnden, 76, of Wilton, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a two-week hospital stay.

He was born Nov. 5, 1930, a son of Earle and Minnie (Buker) Harnden. He received his education in Wilton schools, first at the East Wilton Grammar school and later at Wilton Academy. where he graduated from in 1949.

In his early years, he operated a dairy farm, but as the milk business was drying up for the small farmer, he sold his herd and bought a saw mill which he and his oldest son, Nathan, ran for many years.

He continued to hay his fields and sell the hay and along with all of this, he tended to his 600 plus apple tree orchard along with the help of some family members. Stan enjoyed working in his garden in which he always grew enough for an army; and if he produced more than he could eat, he was known for giving the extra away to friends and neighbors.

He also worked at odd jobs including carpentry, wiring and plumbing. He was a member and director of the Old Crow Indian Band for many years. He played for dances for many years and in 1987, ran his own dances at Harnden's Dance Hall in North Chesterville. He was member of the East Wilton Grange for many years. He enjoyed music and life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
