Andrew Jackson Nixon was born July 4, 1813 in Tennessee. He was small, weighing about 130 pounds, with light curly hair and blue eyes. He was a Primitive Baptist Minister, farmer, and wheelright. He made spinning wheels to sell to the Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma. He was a very good friend to the Indians and was the doctor in the vicinity in which he lived. On December 23, 1832 he married Lurana Wootten in Morgan County, Missouri. He died in Arkansas in 1887 while visiting his brothers.

A.J. Nixon and Lurana Wootten and their family some of whom were young married couples, left Arkansas in 1856 for California. Other families in their wagon train were the Plummers, Joy, New, Light, Ratto, and others. It has been said that three brothers left Arkansas in separate companies for California, but only one family made it there. A.J. Nixon's family changed course due to lack of water for their stock on the Texas plains. Turning south to Mason and Gillespie counties, the family established Nixon Point, a peak on Beaver Creek, as a landmark in October of 1856. Taking refuge from the Indians in old forts in Mason and Menard counties, they were able to keep alive and maintain their small herd of cattle. The other family was never heard from again. John Nixon, son of John Coffee Nixon, a nephew, and Monroe Nixon came back and persuaded the others to go also.

The Nixon family went from Mason County to Kimble County, near Junction on the Llano River, where they lived during the 1860's before they moved to Squaw Creek in Gillespie County. Records show A.J. Nixon, a son's family, James and a son-in-law, John New's family lived there is 1865.

The above source says he died in Arkansas, but he is not in findagrave as such, other Ancestry sources say he died in Gillespie County. I am placing him here until I can find proof of where he is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
