Lysle Rex English, 84, our beloved father, grandfather, husband, uncle and brother returned to the loving arms of our Father in Heaven on May 3, 2013.
Lysle was born January 29, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Charles Luaine English and Gertrude Louise Price English. Lysle was the sixth of ten children.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Wilma Cannon, Charles English, Afton Dyllo, Vernon English, Marjorie Pickering and Thomas English, Phillip English; grandson, Aiden Wright; and the love of his life, his wife Valere Mildred Graham English.
Lysle graduated from Jordon High School in 1947.
As a young man, Lysle joined the U.S. Air Force on April 9, 1948. He completed Jet Fighter Training and gunnery training and was sent to Korea where he flew 100 combat missions, then helping to train new combat crews, flying another 10 missions before returning to Nellis Air Force base as a gunnery instructor. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his aggressiveness and devotion to duty firing into the mouth of a tunnel destroying two enemy trains bringing credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
On February 27, 1952, he married his longtime sweetheart, Valere Mildred Graham, and later they solemnized their marriage on May 11, 1953 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Lysle remained in the Air Force as he raised a family and in the spring of 1966 he was sent to Udorn Thailand and began flying reconnaissance missions into Vietnam. He received a certificate of membership in the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association for striking targets located in the Red River Valley of North Vietnam, the most highly defended in the history of aerial warfare. Some of his missions netted Lysle a lifetime membership in the Downtown Hanoi Camera Club (for flying at supersonic airspeeds while photographing Hanoi City Square in vertical stereo). He flew over 103 missions and was transferred to Randolph AFB where he trained undergraduate Pilots in the T-38.
He went on to complete his master's degree from Utah State University.
During his career, Lysle flew 23 different kinds of aircraft; and over 4,967 hours of flying time in the Air Force. Lysle was the proud recipient of two Silver Stars awarded for gallantry in action in the face of the enemy, and multiple awards and accolades for his duty and service to his country. Statistics were not on his side as a pilot in two brutal wars.
There was not a doubt in his mind he was protected by his Heavenly Father.
On February 1, 1972 Lysle retired from the Air Force as a Lt Colonel Command Pilot.
He went on to teach ROTC school for 9 years, then 9 more years of public school before retiring in 1990.
He then made his home with his wife Valere in Toquerville, Utah. After the death of his wife Valere in 2005, he later went on to marry Earlene Critchfield and they continued to live in Toquerville in his beautiful log home.
He was an active member of the LDS church fulfilling many callings and most recently that of temple worker at the Saint George Temple.

Lysle is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Each one of them was special to him.
