Lil was born in Osceola, Lewis County, the second child of Clayton and Hattie Keeney Kinney. She was the sister of Marion, Walter, Alfred, and Carrie Kinney.
She was the wife of James Kennedy, of Williamstown. After their marriage they were dairy farmers in Florence (Oneida Co.) for a number of years. She and Jim had four sons, William, Robert, John, and Paul.
She had worked at Hardens Furniture and Camden Wire Co., as well as a cook for a time at the Oneida County Girl Scout Camp in Amboy (oddly enough in Oswego County). After retiring she worked as a cook for the Oneida County Senior Nutrition in Camden.
Lil was an avid card player, always ready for a game. She liked travel, including a trip to Ireland where she wanted to kiss the Blarney Stone, which she later said was so dirty she didn't know if she wanted to do it after she'd been lowered down to give it a smooch. She enjoyed time spent with family, and with friends. She also enjoyed quilting, reading, and cooking.
Possessing a good heart, she always worked hard and she lived a long, active, rewarding life.

Last March (2013) Aunt Lil came to stay with us for a few days. We knew that it was closing in on her end of days, and she was out visiting family here. She was amazed one night to learn that Find A Grave existed, as I was doing updates and corrections I explained to her what the site was for and what was on it. I finished what I was doing and went to bed, but apparently Find A Grave stuck with Aunt Lil. The next morning as I was getting ready to head to work, at about 4 a.m., she was sitting in the chair in the living room. She looked at me and asked me this:
"So, when I'm dead are you gonna put me on that computer so everyone can read about me?"
I felt kinda weird, I gotta say.
"Well, if you'd like me to put you on Find A Grave then I will, but it's up to you." I said. Aunt Lil nodded her head, was quiet a moment.
"You can put me on that computer, I want people to know where I am and who I was, but YOU GET MY DATES RIGHT!"
I promised I'd put her on, with the right dates. She looked at me and said "Are you gonna do it right now?" and I had to laugh, I was running late for work by then but that was ok. "How about I give it a while, so I can be sure all your dates are right?" She agreed, and less than two months later I added Aunt Lil to Find A Grave, and made sure all her dates were right.
