John Thomas Dunlop was the son of Henry Dunlop and Catharine Louis Ann Thomas. He marred twice, first to Mary G Glasgow, daughter of Robert Glasgow and second to Alice Wilson McCorkle, daughter of Wm H McCorkle. He served in the 7th Virginia Cavalry, Company G, CSA.

On the 1860 Petersville, Frederick Co., MD census, I found farmer Henry Dunlop, 61; Mrs Dunlop, 53; Henry, 24; Ellen, 20; JOHN, 18; Heen, 16; George, 14; Catherine, 12, all VA born.

On the 1870 South River, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer John T Dunlop, 27 and Mary J Dunlop, both MD born.

On the 1880 Natural Bridge, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer John T Dunlop, 38, MD born and wife Mary G, 40, VA born.

On the 1900 Natural Bridge, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer John T Dunlop, 58, born Feb 1842 in MD and wife Alice M Dunlop, 50, born Aug 1859 in VA, she had no children, plus several servants.

His obit was in the 27 Mar 1907 issue of the Lexington Gazette, page 3 or 4. The first spells his surname Dunlap and the rest of the long story uses Dunlop, like his gravestone.

His marker says:

NEE THOMAS
BORN AT

COUNTY MARYLAND
JAN 25, 1842,
