Robert E. Lindstrom, Sr., "Bob", 84 of Huntsville died May 4 at his home, surrounded by his family. Known as Bob, he was a founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a distinguished leader in the aerospace community. Bob served as project engineer for the Jupiter C-Explorer mission and was program manager for Saturn 1 and 1B. He held the position of Shuttle Project Program Manager, Senior Vice President of Thiokol Corporation, Space Operations and was a key consultant for NASA's Return to Flight program. He was proud to be a member of the NASA and Thiokol families and to share in their many extraordinary accomplishments.
Bob grew up in Sycamore, Illinois where he served as president of his senior class. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Ceramic Engineering. He was drafted during the Korean War and stationed in Huntsville where he met and married Mary Collier Lindstrom (52896894).
Survivors include daughter, Carol L. Caruso; sons, Robert E. Lindstrom, Jr. and William C. Lindstrom, all of Huntsville; grandchildren, Anna Caroline Caruso, Robert Joseph Caruso, Mary Virginia Caruso, Carly Howell Lindstrom, Mary Gray Lindstrom, Leighton Karow Lindstrom and Robert Engh Lindstrom III; great-grandchildren, John Collier Hayden and Caleb Michael Hayden, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Joe Estes and Dr. Rick Owen officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
