Beheaded at age 24, without trial, while in prison at Pontefract with his uncle Anthony Woodville. Richard, Duke of Gloucester, accused the two friends of alienating him from his nephew Prince Edward V. Anthony Woodville left instructions for his friend Richard Grey to by buried with him at the Pontefract Church.

One source states:There was no formal burial, the bodies were stripped and thrown into a communal grave.

Another source notes: In Anthony's will he requested to be buried at Pontefract with Richard Grey; all tombs there were however, destroyed (along with the castle) during the English Civil War. Find A Grave contributor Zella
