"Rose Abbate, a lifelong resident of the area, died May 21, 2005 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. She was 86.

The daughter of Frank Currie and Teresa DiOrio, she was born April 4, 1919 in Highland, N.Y.

Rose attended Highland schools. A member of St. Augustine R.C. Church in Highland, she married Marty Abbate on June 28, 1942 in the church. He predeceased her on August 13, 2001.

She is survived by three daughters: Rosemarie and husband, Victor Illustrato of Lagrangeville, N.Y., Patricia and husband, William Loos of Hopewell Jct., N.Y. and Karen and husband, John Marino of Hyde Park, N.Y.; one son, Martin and wife, Christine Abbate of Broadview Heights, Ohio; one sister, Rosemarie Cook of Alabama; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by one sister, Nancy Rydzewski; three brothers: Thomas J. Currie, Rocco Currie, and John J. Currie.

Calling hours are Monday, May 23 from 4-7 PM at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main St., Highland, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24 at 9:30 AM at St. Augustine R.C. Church in Highland, with burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
