Samuel E James was born to Alexander and Mary James on
March 4 1872 at Bentonville, Arkansas and passed away at
the Southwest Memorial Hospital on March 22, 1952 at the age of 80 years. His family lived at Bentonville, Ark. until he was six years of age and then moved
to Cassville, Mo. and lived until he was fifteen when the family moved on west.
Mr. James married Sara Elizabeth Surat at Remus, Oklahoma
on October 24, 1899 and to this union were born six children, one daughter and five sons. Sam and his family came to Montezuma County in 1921 and has resided
there since.
He leaves to mourn his passing
his wife, Mrs Sara E. James,one daughter, Mrs C B
Haney of Cortez, five sons, Tom and Louis of Cahone, Ted of
Monticello, Utah, John of Dolores, Bill of Pleasant View, one sister, Mrs B F Earl, 21 grandchildren, seven greatgrand children and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Ertel Memorial Chapel on
Tuesday the 25th at 2 p m with Jimmy Stewart of Cortez
officiating, burial was in the Cortez Cemetery.
