STORM LAKE PILOT TRIBUNE

BUENA VISTA COUNTY, IA

JANUARY 31, 1908

DEATH OF PIONEER RESIDENT:

John M. Davis, for many years a citizen of this county, died last Wednesday in Lamar, MO., after an illness of pneumonia. At the time of his death he was seventy-eight years of age and his birth place was in Wales. When only a young man he cam to New York, later living in Wisconsin. Iowa at that time was considered in the far west and a new country being settled by homesteaders. Mr. Davis came with his family and settled on a homestead in Coon township, this county in 1870, therefore was one of the pioneers. A few years ago he retired to private life in Newell and lived most happily there until his wife died. Since that time he has made his home in Golden City, MO., and at Lamar, MO., where death claimed him. He leaves four sons, A.J. Davis, residing in Washington, A.M.Davis of Newell, D.L.Davis of Butler, MO., and John H. Davis of Butler, MO. Mr. Davis has for many years been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and the old residents will recall many of the kindly deeds and ministrations to his neighbors and friends back in the old days. The remains were brought to Newell where interment was made, Sunday.
