'Shorty'
Roger Lee Lloyd, "Shorty," 63, of Madison Heights, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at his residence. He was the husband of Marion Fitzgerald Lloyd for 40 years.
Born Aug. 1, 1945, in Bedford County, he was a son of the late William Ross Lloyd Jr. and the late Mildred Burks Lloyd. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry and was a member of Cove Methodist Church, Coleman Falls.
Many years of Mr. Lloyd's life were spent coaching and teaching the game of baseball in Lynchburg, Madison Heights and Big Island.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Lee Lloyd; a brother, William Eugene Lloyd; a sister, Nancy Louise Lloyd; and a grandson, Aaron Michael Lane.
In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by two daughters, Deborah Cantrell and husband, Glenn, and Elizabeth Lloyd, all of Madison Heights; one brother, Warren Lloyd and wife, Teresa, of Rustburg; four sisters, Agnes Kirk of Lynchburg, Carolyn Casey of Madison Heights, Judith Yancey and Pamela Campbell and husband, Cecil, all of Faulconerville; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Lloyd of Amherst; four wonderful grandchildren, Whitney and Brandon Cantrell, Ryan Lloyd and Tyler Lane; and numerous special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 7, 2008, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Derek Hamby. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park, Forest.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the family.
