HAILEY - Marie J. Scanlan, 77, of Hailey, died Thursday, September 5, 1991 at the Blaine Manor in Hailey.
She was born June 28, 1914 in Jerome, the daughter of George B. and Josephine Shurts. She lived and went to school in the Jerome and Bliss area, until her marriage to Joe Mallea on June 30, 1932 in Gooding. Marie and Joe lived on a ranch east of Shoshone until their divorce in 1961.
She worked for years at the Senior Center in Shoshone and the TB Hospital in Gooding as a Nurse's Aide. In July of 1963 she married Roy C. Scanlan from Gooding. Roy passed away in January 1978, and Marie continued to live in Gooding until she moved to Hailey in 1985 to be closer to members of her family.
Surviving are three sons, Joe and Louis Mallea, both of Hailey, and Dick Mallea of Boise; three daughters, Jody Amburgy of Salem, Oregon, Nicky Smith of Tremonton, Utah, and Carol Kewish of Anaheim, California; one brother, Henry Shurts of Lebanon, Oregon; one sister, Vanona Smith of Roseburg, Oregon; 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, one great-great-granddaughter, one grandson, six brothers, four sisters, and an infant daughter.
The funeral will be conducted today at the Hailey LDS Chapel, with Bishop Mike Warner conducting. The graveside service will follow at the Gooding Cemetery.
