Ellen Madeline Gorlinsky Hubbard, 91, of Russellville, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Dardanelle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 13, 1921, in Russellville, to Carl and Marie Vancura Gorlinsky.

She was a graduate of the Russellville High School, Arkansas Tech University, and Texas Women's University with a Bachelor of Science degree, the University of Arkansas with a Master of Science degree and California Air College. She also attended Hunter College in New York, the University of Central Arkansas, Western Illinois University, Shippensburgh State College in Pennsylvania and the University of Washington. She was in Arkansas' First SPAR (U.S. Coast Guard Women's Reserve), was First Woman Officer (Adjutant) at Rigg's Hamilton Post # 20 of the American Legion, received the Girl of the Year Award - BETA SIGMA PHI - for two years and had a life membership in the Parent-Teacher Association. She was the NEA teacher representative from Arkansas to a 3-week Childhood Education Seminar in Peking, China in 1979. This Seminar focused on the "International Year of the Child".

She had craft ideas published in the "Pack Of Fun" magazine, had curriculum materials sent to the Office of Education in Washington, D. C., by the State Department of Education to share with School Districts throughout the United States, and received the Ambassador of Goodwill Certificate from Governor Bill Clinton.

She was a charter member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Eastern Star Chapter # 505, Kappa Kappa Iota, Kappa Delta Phi, Beta Sigma Phi, the American Association of University Women, Arkansas Department of Classroom Teachers, Russellville Classroom Teachers, the National Education Association, the Arkansas Education Association, Pope County Teachers Association, Central Home Demonstration Club, the Parent Teacher Association, United Commercial Travelers, the American Legion, Pope County Health Council, the American Association of Retired Persons, Pope County Retired Teachers, and was listed with distinctions in the Outstanding Young Women of America and the World Who's Who of Women.

She served in World War II for three years as a supervisor in Intelligence, was the Administrative Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for three years, was a Service Supervisor of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company in Los Angeles for one year, was a flight attendant, and a teacher of grade 4 at Oakland Heights Elementary School, prior to her retirement in 1983. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Russellville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville S. Hubbard; and numerous brothers and nephews.

Survivors include numerous nephews and nieces.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Tom Walker. Burial, with military honors by the VFW Rogers-Rye Post # 2283, will be in Oakland Cemetery in Russellville, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Active and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Berean Bible Class.
