Strauss, Ralph J.

Ralph J. Strauss, age 84, a Manitowoc resident, died Monday morning, August 20, 2012 at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born on March 22, 1928 in Clarks Mills, son of the late Frank and JoHanna (Pieschel) Strauss. Ralph was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1945 - 1946 and the United States Army serving from 1949 - 1953. On April 15, 1950 he married the former Muriel Kluczinske at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2003. Ralph was employed as a police officer with the Manitowoc Police Department, retiring in 1980. He was also a private pilot and enjoyed farming. Ralph was a member of the Manitowoc Chapter of EAA 383, American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88, AmVets Post #99 and Eagles Aerie #706. Ralph looked forward to morning coffee with his former co-workers at Four Seasons every Monday.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law: Daniel Strauss, Green Bay, Jeffrey & Sandra Strauss, Clarks Mills, Major Andrew, USMC & Nicole Strauss, Maryland; two daughters and sons-in-law: Susan & David Rozmarynoski, Manitowoc and Amy & Allan Kanugh, Manitowoc; ten grandchildren: Kurt (Mary) Rozmarynoski, Lindsay (Derrick) Ferry, Andrew (Charissa) Rozmarynoski, Samantha, Katelyn & Cassandra Strauss, Elizabeth Kanugh, Carissa, Alexis & Connor Strauss; three great grandchildren: Tori, Daxton & Cameron Rose Ferry; and another expected in October; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Shirley & Doug Emond, Mishicot, Jerry Dragovich, Seattle, Washington; three sisters-in-law: Rosemary Strauss, Therese Strauss and Lucille Strauss, all of Manitowoc; and a special nephew: Bob Teske. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Viola (Edward) Hebert, Rosalie Dragovich, Judy (Ronald) Schaller; and seven brothers and three sisters-in-law: Harold, Wilbert (Geraldine), LeRoy, Francis (Lorraine), Sylvester (Shirley), William and Robert Strauss.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside Militiary Rites will be accorded by American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7:00 p.m. led by Deacon Paul Kieffer. Friends may also call Friday morning at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Memorials would be appreciated to the Manitowoc Police Association, National Alzheimer's Association http://www.alz.org/ or EAA Chapter 383 Young Eagles Program.
