She was born Feb. 9, 1906, in Astoria, the daughter of Daniel and Viola Waggoner Dutton. She married Warren Bates in 1955 in Beardstown; he died in 1962.
Mrs. Bates attended Astoria High School. She was a housekeeper for the Floyd Condit family and worked at Critic Mills in Beardstown. She retired as a custodian from First National Bank of Beardstown in 1983 after 17 years. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Beardstown and Beards town Emblem Club 474.
Survivors: sister, Fern Gieman of Astoria, and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Sager Funeral Home, Beardstown, the Rev. David Dutton officiating. Burial: Beardstown City Cemetery.
