Sioux Falls- Bruce Owen, age 81, formerly of Spencer, Iowa died on Sunday, February 1st, his grandsons birthday, at Sanford USD Medical Center after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls with a 2:00 PM graveside service at Little Sioux Lutheran Cemetery in Milford, IA. Visitation will begin at 2:30 PM Tuesday at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls with the family present to greet friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Bruce Norman Owen was born on February 4th, 1927 in Spencer, Iowa to Harold and Beulah (Ford) Owen. After High School graduation he enlisted into the US Air Force where he became an aircraft mechanic, which furthered his love of airplanes. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Spencer and his job at the Spencer Daily Reporter.

One of Bruces favorite pastimes, was roller skating. At the Roller Rink in Arnolds Park, He met the love of his life Esther Modtland. Bruce and Esther were united in marriage in Owatonna, MN on June 29, 1948, accompanied by Bruces Mother, Beulah. The couple had four children, Donna, Bob, Tim and Jim. Bruce worked at the Spencer Reporter for 20 years and switched jobs to be an Electrician, first at Interstate Electric and then Eatons Corp. where he retired twice about 2 years apart. In October of 1995 the couple moved to the big city of Sioux Falls. His favorite drive was a trip down 41st street.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Esther Owen of Sioux Falls; daughter, Donna (Harlyn) Kirschenman, Sioux Falls; 3 sons, Robert (Jill) Owen, Bogart, GA, Tim Owen, Sioux Falls, and James Owen, Oelwein, IA; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Frieda) Owen, Spirit Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Joyce (Vince) Stellmach, Sioux Falls; and brother-in-law, Ole (Terri) Modtland, Ankeny, IA;
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice McLaughlin, and one brother, Alan Owen.

The family would like to thank all for their prayers, kind thoughts and words.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at East Side Lutheran Church following the funeral service.
