SGT. HODGDON KILLED NEAR AACHEN JAN. 6
T/Sgt. Percy H. Hodgdon, Jr., USA, was killed in action near Aachen, Germany, Jan. 6, according to a war department telegram received late last night by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Hodgdon of 3 Leavitt avenue.

The 19-year-old infantryman was born in Exeter July 16, 1925. He attended Portsmouth junior high school where he played basketball. Before entering the army in November, 1943, he worked in the inside machine shop at the Portsmouth navy yard.

Sergeant Hodgdon took basic training in Alabama before being sent to England. He took part in the Allied invasion of Normandy and saw action in Belgium, Holland and Germany. His last letter home was dated Dec. 13.

While in the army he had been studying radio engineering.

Besides his parents, he leaves two sisters, Elizabeth, 13, and Louise Hodgdon, 10.

T/Sgt. Percy H. Hodgdon, Jr., son of Percy H. Hodgdon of High street and Mrs. Emma Hodgdon of 3 Leavitt avenue was killed in action in Belgium Jan. 6., according to a war department telegram received late Thursday evening by his mother.

Mrs. Hodgdon had last heard from her son Monday, when she received a letter he had written just a week before.

Sergeant Hodgdon attended Portsmouth high school, where he was active in all sports, and the federal vocational training school located at the Morley company. He was employed at the Portsmouth navy yard before entering the army in Nov. 1943.

Sergeant Hodgdon, who at one time was a carrier boy for the Herald, was home on leave May 8, 1944, and left for overseas duty in June.
