Although Andrew Jackson Bare was born in West Virginia, a Union state, he was a sympathizer of the Southern cause and became a Private in Company G 1st Regiment Engineer Troops in Virginia, a Confederate States Army. It is recorded in his muster records that he was a laborer and a teamsters — he tended horses. Records show that he was hospitalized twice, once for a wound in the leg and once in Richmond, Virginia with rubella. After "The War Between The States" was over, he came to Chatham County, North Carolina and married a local girl, Sarah Catherine Crutchfield in Chatham County, N.C. on 28 March 1865. They had six children.

A Special 'Thank You' to R.J. Shepherd for adding one of Andrew Bare's Civil War Muster Roll cards and the picture he created honoring my g grandpa Bare's service fighting for something he believed in.
Thank you Richard.
