Perry, of Appleton, a much younger women, on 15 Oct 1877, but the marriage did not last as the 1880 U S. census finds him listed as divorced, living in Hope with his 12-year-old daughter Ida F. - Anna Hardy's History of Hope, p. 294, lists marriage intentions filed 7 June 1880 between "Mr. William Vinal of Hope and Miss Cora E. Cotton both of Hope".
