Leroy Dotson, a resident of Wynnewood, OK, was born on March 30, 1925 to Una Velma (Shanks) and Archie Franklin Dotson near Elmore City, OK. He passed away at his home in Wynnewood on Thursday May 23, 2013 at the age of 88. Leroy was raised around Elmore City and attended school there until he was 16, when they moved to Tulsa, OK. At the age of 18 in 1943 he went into the Navy where he served as a Boatswain's mate 2nd class during World War II. He spent time in California and Hawaii before being deployed on the USS Livingston to the Asiatic/Pacific theatre of World War II where he was on ship for 33 months all over the Pacific. After his war service Leroy took training and became an Auto Body and Fender man. He put a body shop in Wynnewood and later a salvage yard that he operated until he retired due to ill health. On July 25th, 1947 he married Maxene (Dill) in Pauls Valley, OK. They made their home in Wynnewood where he was a deacon in the Church of Christ for several years, a member of the American Legion, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Maxene had a place at Lake Texoma where they enjoyed spending time when his health permitted. He also loved to watch the Wynnewood Savages and currently had 21 of his great grandchildren attending Wynnewood Schools. He was preceded in death by his parents; a Granddaughter – Angi Ryan; and a Son in law – Rick Ryan.
Survivors include his wife Maxene of their home in Wynnewood, OK; One son – Gene Dotson of Wynnewood, OK; 3 Daughters and Sons in law – Janice and Bob Anderson of Wynnewood, OK; Sue Ryan of Wynnewood, OK; Sheila and Tommy Nabors of Wynnewood, OK; Brother and Sister in law – Lewis and Ellawayne Dotson of Elmore City, OK; 3 Sisters and Brothers in law – Joceil and Leon Smith of Enos, OK; Portia Ross Little of Shawnee, OK; Ruth and Ray Farris of Hurst, Texas; 11 Grandchildren and their spouses – Jeff and Natalie Anderson, Darren and Stephanie Anderson, Stephanie and Marques Thomas, Kerri Raper, Casey and Misti Ryan, Shannon Dotson, Chad and Mindy Dotson, Dortia Dotson, Brent and Donna Nabors, Clint and Regan Nabors, and Tommylee and Brandy Nabors; 28 Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday May 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Church of Christ in Wynnewood, OK officiated by Todd McRay, Clint Brown, and Reuben Rog. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood. Services are under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Wynnewood, OK.
